Linux vs Windows

The decided development of Windows systems gradually aroused the reluctance of UNIX and Apple users.

Thus, early versions of Windows were criticized because certain features were considered bad imitations of the functions or the interface provided by these operating systems.

On the contrary, the GNU / Linux project has enjoyed the sympathy of the computer community, to champion the ideals of free software and make available to many applications and developments.

Linux has grown up developing the principles of UNIX systems, at the beginning of UNIX systems, while substantially improving the interface aspects that have so popularized Windows.

The rapid progress experienced by the different distributions has led to the idea that in a relatively short time the Windows market would suffer a setback in favor of Linux systems.

The ever-present UNIX-Windows controversy has been fostered with the emergence of the GNU / Linux project and it is common to find outraged activists in favor of one or the other current. A position far from this sterile controversy seems obviously more convenient.

Linux offers many features and the possibility of using components and applications that were previously only available in large systems.

From the perspective of education, its value is unquestionable, allowing to modify any part of the system to adjust it to the needs of users, as well as to try new developments.

Linux is today a definite trump card in communication networks to the detriment of other UNIX systems.

The main manufacturers have found a tool of great power that allows them to reduce costs and face new markets by diversifying their products.

Likewise, the unstoppable advance of Linux in embedded systems is a clear result of the benefits it offers. Thus, for example, it allows to have high resources for the development of firewalls or routers using modest means.

Windows, on the other hand, has become the de facto standard in the domestic and office automation sphere. Microsoft has successfully captured the needs in these sectors.

A recent statistic concludes that a high number of users barely knows how to take advantage of the features offered by their operating system to the point of not even modify the configuration of their desktop.

However, Linux does not currently offer a competitive alternative in this sector.
